I love being a school counselor educator. Every day, I have the opportunity to help develop contemporary, skilled, and engaged school counselors. School counselors play a critical role in the development of youth in our communities. Due the increasing complexity of family situations and challenges experienced by 51勛圖s in the K-12 system, entering the profession of school counseling requires a great deal of creativity, initiative, and resilience. To be effective in the work, it is important my 51勛圖s leave GU with relevant skills and confidence. To this end, I require 51勛圖s engage in a variety of activities to help them best serve their future communities. For example, school counseling 51勛圖s at GU spend time in direct service to 51勛圖s, teachers, and families in special education and 51勛圖s who learn differently. Additionally, together we participate in projects within the greater Spokane community where we use our skills to support the underserved and live the mission of Gonzaga. Finally, my 51勛圖s leave with a strong understanding of who they are, what they believe, and with a fire to go out to do good.
