51³Ô¹Ï the Program

The goal of the Master’s of Education in Special Education program is to empower our graduates in making a difference in the lives of individuals/51³Ô¹Ïs, their families, and within schools and our community. We train professionals that build rapport, understand the whole person, diagnose areas of concern, and develop interventions to address individuals needs through evidence-based practices including but not limited to behavior analysis.

Our program welcomes international 51³Ô¹Ïs and out of state teachers who seek expertise from our in-person programs.

Our M.Ed. in Special Education programs offer two emphases: General and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

General Special Education Emphasis:

This emphasis is designed for persons seeking …

  • To advance their knowledge regarding the field of SpEd
  • WA State teaching certificate in SpEd and/or Early Childhood SpEd
  • To add a SpEd teaching endorsement to a valid WA State certification

Program Highlights

  • Build your own program
  • Complete your program in as short as 1 year (depending on program choice)
  • Gain experience in the field with people of all ages (toddlers through adults)
  • Advance your leadership skills through faculty mentoring
  • Teach in our on-campus integrated lab preschool serving children 2.5 to 6 years old
  • Develop a solid foundation through advanced course work regarding academic and behavior skills

BCBA Emphasis:

Our course sequence has been approved by the Association of Behavior Analysts International (ABAI). This allows candidates to complete our Master's program and set themselves up to become a licensed Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Candidates undergo training to perform functional behavior assessments and gain applied research skills to improve educational outcomes for all 51³Ô¹Ïs, regardless of disability.
